About Therapy for Children (Ages 6-15)

At Mills Gosse Psychology, many clinicians are trained to assess and treat children, teens, and their families. We understand that it can be difficult for parents to find psychological services to address concerns for their children, and we are here to help. Depending on a child’s age, it is typically most helpful that the first session be scheduled with the parent(s) to take time to evaluate the concerns from the perspective of the child’s caregivers. From there, sessions will be set up with the child themselves, based on the recommendations of the clinician, along with input from parents. Some common concerns that we address in therapy include the following:

  • Anxiety, Fears, Phobias, and Avoidance

  • Depression, Withdrawal, Lack of Interest or Motivation

  • Behavioural Problems, Anger, Aggression, Oppositionality

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Bullying, Shyness, Low Self-Esteem

  • Attachment Concerns

  • Social Problems

Our Process

Psychological treatment services may be conducted by qualified therapists under supervision, and may not be performed by a psychologist directly. While this is a common and widely accepted practice, some insurance plans do not cover such services; therefore, you must inquire with your insurance provider to determine coverage.

Appointments:

  • Therapy appointments can be held in-person, by phone or virtually by secure video.

  • We offer services promptly and typically do not hold waitlists.

  • Our head office is in Ajax, Ontario, and we have a dedicated team of clinicians serving clients at other locations in Oshawa, Whitby, Peterborough, Mississauga and Hamilton.

Fee & Payment:

  • Our fee for this service is $225 per 50-minute session.

  • We understand that some individuals may have limited or no benefits coverage for psychological services. To ensure accessibility, we offer a sliding fee scale to some clients who qualify.

  • If you have extended health coverage, please provide us with your yearly coverage limit so we can determine if you qualify for a lower rate.

  • Please let us know if you have no extended health coverage.

  • We accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or e-transfer.

  • We kindly ask that a valid credit card be provided to keep securely on file.

Insurance:

  • Some insurance plans may cover this service; however, we recommend you check your coverage with your insurance provider.

  • Receipts will be issued in the Supervising Psychologist’s name and registration number after each payment is made, and will also include the treating clinician’s name and credentials, if applicable.

  • Kindly note that we do not typically bill insurance companies directly for private therapy.
