About ADHD Assessment and Testing for Adults
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neuro-developmental disorder that develops in childhood and typically manifests with significant attentional problems and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity that significantly impact academic functioning and behaviour in many settings. Additionally, a substantial proportion of children with ADHD will continue to demonstrate significant symptoms and impairments into adulthood. These include ongoing difficulty sustaining attention or focus on work, restlessness or over-activity, and impulsive behaviours, such as reckless spending or decision-making. For adults with ADHD, close relationships and school or work difficulties may be a concern. An adult ADHD assessment is a specialized evaluation to diagnose ADHD in adults for treatment planning and outlining needed accommodations or supports. It involves interviews with the individual and other observers, such as parents or spouses, to gather information about symptoms and functional impairments. Standardized rating scales, questionnaires, and cognitive tests evaluate ADHD symptoms, executive functions, and their impact on daily life. The assessment also considers developmental history, medical records, and academic performance.
The results of an adult ADHD assessment provide essential information for diagnosing ADHD, distinguishing it from other conditions, identifying co-occurring disorders, and developing appropriate treatment plans. This assessment is particularly valuable for individuals of all ages experiencing challenges related to attention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and their effects on academic, occupational, or personal functioning.
We utilize the latest assessment measures available, and our testing protocols and reports meet all current professional standards.
Psychological assessment services may be conducted by qualified assessors under supervision, and may not be performed by a psychologist directly. While this is a very common and widely accepted practice, some insurance plans do not cover such services. Therefore, you must inquire with your insurance provider to determine coverage.
Please note, if you are a student, and the findings of this assessment will be used specifically for academic accommodations or support at school, the adult ADHD assessment will likely not be the most beneficial service for you. For students, we typically recommend undergoing a psychoeducational assessment.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that you will receive a diagnosis of ADHD following this assessment. This will depend on the clinical opinion of the assessors and the availability of sufficient clinical data for a diagnosis. All parties must acknowledge that booking such an assessment will not necessarily result in the desired diagnosis. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder, and data on childhood functioning (such as report cards, medical reports, or parent observations) is important in its assessment. However, we use many other measures of current and past functioning and always endeavour to conduct thorough and comprehensive assessments, even when background information may not be available. However, in some cases, it may not be possible to make definitive diagnostic conclusions about ADHD if there is a complete lack of data on childhood functioning.
Please note that any specific forms that you wish to have completed should be provided to the assessors at the outset of the evaluation, whenever possible.
