Child and Youth Therapy Ontario

More About Child & Youth Therapy

Therapy for children differs significantly from therapy for adults. Kids often lack the same verbal skills to express their emotions and comprehend inner conflicts. They might not even recognize or understand their basic feelings. That's why we create a playful environment where children can comfortably engage. Sitting in an office and talking for long stretches doesn't work well for them. They struggle to express their feelings, sometimes expressing themselves through inappropriate behaviour or indirect actions.

Their responses can vary from disruptive and aggressive behaviour to withdrawal and quietness. This might seem like defiance or disobedience, but often, it's their way of coping with sadness or emotional pain. As a result, their school performance often suffers, impacting their social life and the entire family.

Child therapy employs proven techniques tailored for children to express themselves and tackle their conflicts constructively. Through play, they learn to articulate their thoughts and feelings positively, manage their behaviour, make better choices, and take responsibility for their actions. We offer toys, dolls, puppets, art supplies, and musical instruments to help them communicate what's hard to put into words.

When children can express themselves freely and feel understood and supported, they experience relief as their emotions are released and transformed. This process fosters a healthy attachment to a caring adult, allowing them to develop positive feelings towards others, including their parents.
