Psychological Treatment Philosophy

Because each person is unique, with his and her own personal history, perspective, and worldview, we do not treat people as if they are all alike. And we do not believe that one form of mental health treatment applies to everyone.

Unlike some modes of practice that boast a quick-fix or promise immediate psychological symptom relief, we believe that the only way to achieve permanent and positive change is to address the cause of one's difficulties. This is why our approach to mental health treatment is eclectic, realistic, and tailored to the distinct needs of each person. Our staff are trained in multiple modes of mental health therapy and evidence-based psychological interventions that cater to your specific context and life situation where your individual goals and expectations can be realized.

This requires that you feel listened to, understood, validated, and authentically cared about in a humanistic fashion. This transpires within a safe and emotionally supportive environment where conflicts are identified, expressed, understood, and transcended through insight, increased coping, problem resolution, and behavioural change.

We provide guidance and direction when requested, support and validation when needed, insight and knowledge in the face of uncertainty, meaning when none seems to exist, and engender hope that things can be different.

Fees & Insurance Coverage

Fees for service are based on feasibility and level of insurance coverage. There is no OHIP coverage for psychology services in Ontario. Therefore, you will need to check with your insurance provider to determine the amount of annual coverage you have under your plan that covers psychological services with a clinical psychologist.
What to Ask your Insurer

Protecting your privacy is very important to us. Call your insurer directly (not your place of employment or HR department) or look online to see the details of your policy. Your insurer does not have the right to know the reason why you wish to visit us, therefore, you should only ask what annual coverage you have to see a registered clinical psychologist. You should NOT tell them what services you require or discuss any details of your inquiry. That is confidential.

If you or your spouse are employed, or if you are a dependent on your parents' plan, you are likely entitled to access benefits for our services. Most people have coverage ranging from $500 to over $2000 a year. In cases requiring couples therapy or family intervention (including assessments), all members are entitled to use their coverage. You should also know that insurance companies do not always follow the calender year. You should always ask about your year-end, because if your year begins in June, you are entitled to claim your expenses before that time, and then you are entitled to another full year of benefits. So if you started therapy in March, you can use all your benefits for that year, and then you get to start over again in June and continue to have your insurance coverage pay for our services.

Please Note: If you have coverage to see a registered clinical psychologist, ALL of our staff will be covered under your plan and you will have no trouble in claiming your benefits unless otherwise stipulated in your policy.
Direct Billing to Insurance Providers

In some cases we do direct billing to insurance providers for our clinical services and you will not have to pay out of pocket. MVA, WSIB, Veteran's Affairs and CICB claims that are approved by your insurer are billed directly. We also do direct billing for Durham Regional Police Officers.
